As a result of the magnitude 7.9 range earthquake that ravaged the coast of central Peru on Wednesday, August 15 th 2007 leaving hundreds of people dead, thousands injured and thousands more homeless, the Peruvian Consulate has joined forces with the Peruvian community to form the Peru Relief Fund in order to assist the victims.

In the city of Ica about 85,000 homes have collapsed, while in the town of Pisco approximately 80% of the city has been destroyed. In the aftermath of this tragedy, thousands of people, most of them children, have been left without shelter or a place to call home. Their immediate need of food, water and tents is as critical as their need of a permanent abode. The Peru Relief Fund's goal is to raise funds to provide short and long-term assistance to the victims. The Peru Relief Fund will also continue and take on large charitable projects ranging from education, health and other issues as the needs require.

To this end, a Fund Raising Campaign began on August 25th, 2007and continues today.
